Jennifer
Meet Jennifer, mother of three boys and one of our local Leaders.
Hello everyone! I’m Jennifer. I’m the newest of the local leaders. I moved to Chattanooga from my other La Leche League group in my old stomping grounds of Northeast Louisiana where I grew up.
I’ve got three boys: Asher 7, Jude, 5, and Ethan 14 months. I’ve been pregnant and/or breastfeeding now since the birth of my first son. That first time, I was the only person in my extended family who was giving breastfeeding a try. My mother had for a few months, but it was always mixed feeding with formula, so I didn’t have any guides to help me through what I was experiencing. Especially when I ended up in excruciating pain the first few months!
I was getting desperate and was nervous to reach out to yet another medical professional, when I had a difficult birth and decided to try the local LLL meeting that month. I had my husband stay in the car ready to bail me out if I hated it, lol. He ended up coming inside to find me after I stayed so late after all the other mother’s left!
After the initial help of other mother’s in the same stage of life, I kept coming back to see how their babies were growing, to feel out early discipline struggles, and to make playdates with newfound friends. It felt good to have a place that I could snack, nurse without looks, and actually talk to other adults to feel like I was making a difference too.
Now that I’m on my last baby, I’m enjoying passing forward all the help I received in the beginning and volunteering as a leader. If you had to look back 5-10 years from now- what 1 thing will have made the biggest difference for you and your baby in the early years? For me it’s been breastfeeding…and La Leche League.
My favorite nursing spot is anywhere I can get all their baby snuggles undistracted to myself. Currently the bed during nap time.
