April
Meet April, mother of three and exclusive pumper who overcame in spite of breastfeeding roadblocks.
Hi Everyone! Iām April, mother to Cooper 13, Ellys 2, and Lyric 1. With my first I EBF for 3 months before having to return back to work.
Fast forward 10 years and I really didn't know what to expect the next time around. She wouldn't latch well and I was so uneducated. So I pumped exclusively and then ended things early. It definitely effected my postpartum depression. With my youngest, Lyric, I dove into educational groups and prepared myself for if I had to pump I would. I would be more educated in how to achieve the best results with the pump than I had been with Ellys.
How did it turn out? With Lyric I had trouble with latching and transferring so I moved right into pumping to protect and build my supply. I was able to travel so I traveled extensively. I learned how to pump in a plane and locate pumping rooms at the airports. I also was a pro at pumping in the car.
When I joined Le Leche League they encouraged me. For awhile I told myself I had failed at breast feeding because I wasn't feeding him at the breast. They helped me to understand that pumping was still breastfeeding and I was doing a great job. They always answered any questions I had, and the other parents helped me not feel so alone.
My favorite pumping spot was in the living room. I could pump and still spend time with the babies.
